TESTI RIFLESSI. Myth and Mythmaking

Friday 19 July at 06:45 p.m. | Public Park in Zafferana Etnea

For Teatri Riflessi, La Piccionaia will present a preview reading of an excerpt from Tommaso Fermariello’s piece.

The preview will be open to the public, but it is also addressed to a focus group of teenage students. At the end of the performance, they will give feedback on the piece and join the debate about the themes of the work.

Thersites

written by Tommaso Fermariello
with Francesco Wolf
directed by Tindaro Granata
produced by La Piccionaia Centro di Produzione Teatrale
in collaboration with M.i.l.k. – Minds in a Lovely Karma

While fighting in the Trojan War, Thersites gets obsessed with becoming a hero and improving his condition. Unlike the other Homeric characters, Thersites lacks all the classic virtues such as strength, beauty and fierceness. How can he strive to become a hero?

This piece draws a parallel between The Iliad and the contemporary world through the eyes of an antihero. Thersites desperately tries to be something he is not, longing for glory but defeated by his misperception of masculinity and success. The result is an engaging portrait of a person who fights against himself and social expectations; a deep reflection on heroism and the complexity of identity.
