È solo un lungo tramonto

Awarded with the Franco Quadri Special Mention at the 2023 Riccione Theatre Prize, ‘È solo un lungo tramonto’ is a theatre piece centred on the mechanical repetition and disintegration of dialogues between the author, Jacopo Giacomoni, and his father, who suffers from Alzheimer’s. By dictating and re-dictating these conversations to a computer, the text absorbed the same losses and repetitions, turning into a reflection on time and forgetting.

Following the first residency within the framework of Teatri Riflessi 9: Artist Residencies in July 2024, which led to a short version of the piece presented and discussed with international artists and professionals, Jacopo Giacomoni returns to Etna for a second period of research.

During this second period, sound designer Alessandro Gambato joins Giacomoni. The residency takes place between Viagrande Studios in Viagrande and the city of Catania. Here, the social cooperative Trame di Quartiere promotes and facilitates actions within the San Berillo neighbourhood, aiming to foster participatory and cooperative processes among residents for an inclusive and cohesive urban transformation. Palazzo De Gaetani, the cooperative’s headquarters, preserves collective memories and identities, making it the ideal setting for a work that reflects on loss and remembrance.

Teatri Riflessi: Artist Residencies is supported by the European Festivals Fund for Emerging Artists – EFFEA, an initiative of the European Festivals Association (EFA), co-funded by the European Union.

The project is realised in partnership with gARTen – festival di teatro nel parco – Fondazione Claudia Lombardi per il teatro (Switzerland) in collaboration with Viagrande Studios and Trame di Quartiere.

Jacopo Giacomoni (Trento, 1987) graduated in Philosophy with a thesis on the existence of fictional characters. He works as a playwright and performer. In 2023, he won the special mention Franco Quadri (Riccione Prize). He carries on structuralist research on dramaturgy, designing performative devices to welcome audience participation and chance. In his recent works, he’s created dramaturgical parasites that attack existing textual organisms, a theatrical device for electing humanity’s greatest tragedy, a theatrical office for the celebration of a funeral on stage, and a theatrical hauntology experiment on the loss of his father’s memory. As a performer, he merges his path as an actor with that of a saxophonist in an ongoing exploration of free improvisation and non-idiomatic sounds.
